*Join the Frohlich Lab! We are hiring a postdoc for our latest research
project "The causal role of large-scale network dynamics in cognitive
control".*

Interested in the causal role of brain rhythms in cognition? Excited to use
cutting-edge circuit perturbation strategies and advanced data analytics?
We are looking to hire a postdoc to join our team at UNC. We have developed
a comprehensive toolset to examine the large-scale network dynamics in an
exciting preclinical model. We combine optogenetics, multisite
multielectrode array recordings, and touch-screen based behavioral assays
to delineate the role of theta and alpha oscillations in cognitive control.
We are a unique team that brings together preclinical and clinical research
to advance the rational design of circuit-based therapeutics in psychiatry.

Established in 2011, the Frohlich Lab has focused on the development of an
intermediate model system for the study of network oscillations. Recent
papers include Stitt et al 2018 (Nature Communications), where we
demonstrate the antagonistic interactions of alpha and theta oscillations
in the thalamo-cortical system as a function of arousal. Our group also has
a long-standing track record of translating preclinical discoveries about
brain stimulation into human studies and treatment clinical trials, such as
our recent work on transcranial alternating current stimulation for the
treatment of auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia, major depressive
disorder, and chronic pain.

We are part of the vibrant UNC-Chapel Hill neuroscience community. An
abundance of seminars, workshops, and meetings provide ample opportunities
for collaborations, professional development, and career advancement.
Chapel Hill is an exciting yet affordable town, which is part of a rapidly
growing larger community that includes Durham (Duke University) and Raleigh
(Research Triangle Park and NC State University).

Academic qualifications and requirements:

- PhD degree in relevant discipline

- Experience with electrophysiology techniques and/or computational
neuroscience

- Programming experience (e.g. Matlab, Python)

Application deadline: open until the position is filled.

Application checklist:

1) A single page research statement demonstrating your fit with the program
described above.

2) Current academic CV demonstrating research excellence and a capacity for
leadership.

3) Contact information for two references from academic supervisors or
current employers.

Learn more about us here: www.frohlichlab.org. Please reach out to Flavio
Frohlich (flavio_frohlich@med.unc.edu) to discuss this unique opportunity.
We look forward to hearing from you!

The candidate will also be expected to report algorithmsand experimental findings through peer reviewed publications. In addition, opportunities to develop research proposals under direct mentorship from the PIwill be provided.

Requirements include: 1) an interest in the therapeutic mechanismsof deep brain stimulation across motor and cognitive networks, 2) A PhD inNeuroscience, Engineering, Physics, or Data Science, or a related field, 3) Proficiencyin Matlab and/or Python, 4) Experience with electrophysiological signalanalysis (EEG and LFPs) with a strong quantitative and theoretical skill set, and5) excellent writing skills. The position is open until filled. Interestedapplicants can send a NIH style biosketch or CV, a brief statement of interest,as well as contact information for two references to: Fabian.j.David@northwestern..edu

From:   Timo Gerkmann <timo.gerkmann@UNI-HAMBURG.DE>

The Signal Processing (SP) research group at the Universität Hamburg
<http://uhh.de/inf-sp> in Germany is hiring a *Research Associate / PhD
student.*

The goal of the successful candidate is to design signal processing and
machine learning algorithms to *automatically detect emotional
expressions* (individual affect and group mood) from recorded audio
data. Challenges include speaker localization and diarization (often
with overlapping speech), identification of discrete behaviors (e. g.
laughter), and expansion to higher, more abstract levels of
socioemotional behaviors (e. g., verbal expressions of support or
disagreement) in order to detect convergent affective phenomena and
emergent group mood.

This project is part of the interdisciplinary research group "Mechanisms
of Change in Dynamic Social Interactions", which integrates fundamental
science, innovative methods, and applications in psychology and computer
science.

to work on the neural mechanisms of human decision-making, integrating
multimodal brain imaging (MEG, functional MRI and diffusion MRI) and
computational modelling.

The successful candidate will design and conduct behavioural and brain
imaging experiments, in particular to take a lead role in integrating
imaging analysis from multiple modalities. The research aims to understand
the computational and neurocognitive processes of human decision-making,
and how individual differences in decision-making are influenced by
learning and brain stimulation. The research associate will also be
expected to collaborate with other researchers in the team on imaging data
analyses and data curation.

The research associate will have access to a unique combination of
state-of-the-art facilities and world-leading expertise at CUBRIC, with 4
human MRI systems (2 x Siemens Prisma, 1 x Siemens Connectom, 1 x Siemens
7T), MEG, EEG, TMS, tDCS, clinical research units and testing labs. Further
details of CUBRIC can be found on our webpage (
http://sites.cardiff.ac.uk/cubric).

This is a full-time, fixed-term position available from now until February
2022. For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Jiaxiang Zhang (
zhangj73@cardiff.ac.uk). A formal application needs to be submitted via the
