*The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit *

The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit
<http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/> is one of the largest and most enduring
contributors to the understanding of human cognition and its disorders.
Our research investigates fundamental human cognitive processes such as
attention, language, memory, and emotion. We do this using a combination
of behavioural experiments, neuroimaging, and computer modelling.
Behavioural experiments help us understand how these processes work at
all ages and how they become disrupted in disease and disorder.
Neuroimaging helps us study the brain mechanisms underlying human
cognition. Where possible, we use our discoveries to improve human
health and well-being from childhood through to older age, for example
by developing new treatments for clinical disorders of cognition and
mental health. The Unit provides a lively intellectual environment for
scientific research, with regular lecture and seminar series and
research meetings. At any one time, we have about 15 core research
programmes, each run by a senior scientist.

*The Cambridge Hearing Group*

Auditory researchers at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit form
part of the Cambridge Hearing Group
<https://www.hearing-research.group.cam.ac.uk/>, a group of over 30
hearing researchers across two Universities and a major teaching
hospital in Cambridge. Our collaborations within Cambridge enable us to
have a clear pipeline for research activities to flow between the lab
and the clinic. There are unusually strong links between academic
researchers and clinical partners at Addenbrooke's Hospital
<https://www.cuh.nhs.uk/addenbrookes-hospital> and in the private
hearing sector. We have a strong network of collaborators in the UK,
Europe, North America, Canada and Australia. Current major research
themes include cochlear-implant research, from front-end signal
processing to objective measures of neural health, neuroplasticity in
normal and hearing-impaired listeners, binaural processing, the effects
of hearing loss throughout the lifespan, and both physical and
computational models of hearing. The group benefits from a wealth of
world-class expertise in psychology, neuroscience, engineering, surgery,
speech science, audiology, auditory physiology, electrophysiology,
material science, and computer science. We use a wide variety of
research tools to produce cutting-edge research. These include
psychoacoustics, virtual reality, speech perception, web-based data
collection, objective measures such as EEG, biophysical and
computational models of the inner ear, cadaveric studies, clinical
models, and paediatric studies.

[beasiswa] [info] Two funded Ph.D. openings to study the cognitive neuroscience of cognitive control

---------- Forwarded message ---------
From: George Buzzell <gbuzzell@fiu.edu>

Two funded Ph.D. openings to study the cognitive neuroscience of cognitive control

The Neural Dynamics of Control Laboratory (NDC Lab; https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.NDCLab.com__;!!Mih3wA!XoQ2jW5b0TklTR2f4S07IhzpiKStdw9EXOcfCQATPrWBZ7IUFSfCD-mS_MQqkTFGLkfXQw$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.ndclab.com/__;!!Mih3wA!XoQ2jW5b0TklTR2f4S07IhzpiKStdw9EXOcfCQATPrWBZ7IUFSfCD-mS_MQqkTHYTcq_1g$ >), directed by Dr. George Buzzell, has two openings for funded Ph.D. positions with a start date of Fall 2021. Broadly, graduate students in the lab will focus on studying cognitive control, its development, and relations to social behavior and social anxiety. Primary methods employed by the lab include EEG (ERPs, time-frequency, source-localization), computational modeling (e.g., drift-diffusion modeling), structural equation modeling, and machine learning approaches. (f)MRI is also a key method used by the lab. NDC Lab students have the opportunity to receive training in a diverse array of methods and analysis techniques, along with access to on-site high-density EEG, fMRI, and high-performance computing resources.

The NDC Lab is comprised of a diverse group of researchers and students committed to understanding how individuals monitor and control their behavior. At a basic level, we employ neural, computational, and behavioral tools to pinpoint the neurocognitive processes involved in cognitive control, asking how these processes develop across childhood and adolescence. At the applied level, we seek to understand how cognitive control development relates to social behavior and the emergence of social anxiety. Ultimately, our work has the capacity to provide unique insights into basic neural and developmental processes, while also informing policy or intervention work for families, schools, and clinicians. For additional details, please visit the NDC Lab website: https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.NDCLab.com__;!!Mih3wA!XoQ2jW5b0TklTR2f4S07IhzpiKStdw9EXOcfCQATPrWBZ7IUFSfCD-mS_MQqkTFGLkfXQw$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.ndclab.com/__;!!Mih3wA!XoQ2jW5b0TklTR2f4S07IhzpiKStdw9EXOcfCQATPrWBZ7IUFSfCD-mS_MQqkTHYTcq_1g$ >.
