Ten Doctoral Scholarships

St Mary's has fostered the intellectual, physical and spiritual development of its students to assist them to have successful careers and flourishing lives since its foundation in 1850. Our beautiful campus is situated in the grounds of the historic Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham, in close proximity to the National Archives in Kew and with easy access to central London.

Under its new Principal, Professor Philip Esler, St Mary's will strengthen its mission to create new knowledge and to engage in activities in support of social cohesion and economic development in this exciting period of change for UK higher education.

St Mary's provides a supportive and diverse environment for research students with a thriving postgraduate community and high levels of student satisfaction.

To strengthen that community we are now offering ten doctoral scholarships based in the following Academic Schools:

School of Education - three full-time scholarships in the areas of Religious Education, Physical Education, Sustainable Education, or Educational Leadership. School of Human Sciences - one full-time scholarship in the area of Physiology or Biomechanics of Distance Running.

School of Communication, Culture and Creative Arts - three part-time scholarships in the areas of: Second Language Acquisition; Anime/Animation Studies; Gender Representation in Visual Culture; Horror, Science Fiction and Cult Film and Television; Audiences and Fan Cultures; CCTV and Surveillance/Crime and the Media; Popular Music and Counter Culture; Visual Culture in Ireland.

School of Management and Social Sciences - three full-time scholarships in the areas of Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, or Clinical Hypnosis.

These scholarships will cover full fees for UK/EU students or half-fees for international students for a three year period (or equivalent part-time), with the exception of the Human Sciences scholarship, which in addition will provide a living allowance for three years.

Applications are invited for students wishing to commence their research degree in October 2011-2012 (or immediate commencement if desired).
