Applications are invited for a full-time 1-year studentship for the MSc Applied Health Research hosted within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, commencing October 2014.
MSc Applied Health Research
This MSc provides an ideal training for anyone wanting to become a professional researcher in the health field or for anyone wishing to develop careers in the health sector, where the ability to take a critical, evidence-based approach to health problems and solutions is increasingly valued. The course offers students an excellent grounding in applied health research methods, including systematic reviews, RCTs, epidemiology, applied statistics and qualitative methods. Teaching is led by senior staff in the Department, who are acknowledged experts in their fields and the large majority of teaching sessions take place in small groups.
Department of Health Sciences
The successful candidate will join the Department of Health Sciences which has been rated equal first for health services research in the UK. You will be part of our graduate school which provides a vibrant, multidisciplinary learning environment. The core philosophy of the Department is that its teaching and research programmes should improve health and healthcare through the development of rigorous research evidence and its application in policy and practice. The Department is multidisciplinary, involving clinicians from a range of health professions including medicine, nursing and midwifery alongside disciplines such as statistics, health economics, health services research, psychology, sociology and epidemiology.

The University
The University of York is one of the foremost Universities in the UK and a member of the Russell Group. The most recently reported Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) placed York in the top ten UK universities. The University has a particular strength in health-related research.
Award
Funding is available for a maintenance grant of £12,000 plus home student fees (£6,200). Overseas students will have to pay the difference between overseas fee rate and home fee rate.
For students whose first language is not English there is a minimum requirement of an IELTS score of at least 7 in each component of the test.
