[beasiswa] [info] PhD/ Postdoc position in molecular medicine at NTNU Norway

PhD/ Postdoc position in molecular medicine at NTNU Norway

PhD/ Postdoc position in molecular medicine at NTNU Norway

PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Medicine (2 positions)
Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine aims at carrying out high quality research, supervision and teaching for better health. The activities comprise basic- and clinical research within oncology and mechanisms of cancer development, palliative medicine, haematology, dermatology & venerology, infectious disease, molecular cell biology, physiology, immunology, toxicology, gastroenterology and gastrosurgery, experimental surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, urology and medical ethics.

The projects will be carried out in the DNA repair and genome stability research group. The research group focuses on base excision repair and direct repair of DNA damage and how this is related to cancer development. In recent years strong links between DNA repair and adaptive immunity have been identified.
The PhD research project, "Early steps in adaptive immunity", aims at exploring these interactions in molecular detail, particularly early steps and how dysfunctions in adaptive immunity may result in B-cell oncogenesis. The project will also address molecular regulatory aspects at gene level, including transcription regulation and regulation by microRNA, as well as mechanisms for immune suppression in chemotherapy. The project will involve the use mouse models and cell culture models.
The postdoctor position will focus on structural aspects of repair of base damage and will use X-ray crystallography and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) as central methods. The work will address the mechanism of assembly and structure of dynamic DNA repair complexes and the coordination of initial committed steps in multi-step repair pathways. The emphasis will be on base excision repair proteins and direct base repair.

The period of employment for the PhD position and for the postdoctor position is three years. The position of PhD candidate has the objective of taking organized academic training and the completion of the doctoral degree. Admission to a doctoral degree programme is a requirement for employment as a PhD candidate. During the period of employment, three years are to be devoted to research training, including a total of 30 credits from NTNU's PhD courses. For regulations concerning the PhD-degree at NTNU, please see: http://www.ntnu.no/studieavd/dok/PhD_regulations.pdf We seek talented, enthusiastic and creative scientists with a strong commitment to research. Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written are important.

For the PhD position the applicants must hold: Relevant master's degree or equivalent education. Applicants that successfully complete a master's degree or equivalent during the application period are considered eligible. The candidate should have a strong record within mammalian molecular cell biology and preferentially also in bioinformatics. A strong academic record with a weighed average grade of master's or equivalent education with a grade of B or higher, in accordance with NTNU's grading system. Emphasis will also be placed on documented laboratory experience in molecular biology relevant to gene regulation and cancer development. The candidates' motivation for the position, ability to work in team will also be considered.

For the postdoctor position the applicants must hold: PhD in a relevant area and experience with X-ray crystallography and, preferentially, other biophysical methods relevant to macromolecular structure analysis.
