Call for Workshop Scholarships

RLC Campus Bonn and Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, offer scholarships for PhD students from developing and transition countries to participate at a workshop on "Reverse Degradation by Innovation: New Pathways of Sustainable Natural Resource Management", May 30 – June 1, 2011, in Bonn, Germany

 

Background

The Right Livelihood College (RLC) is the global capacity building initiative of the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize". RLC is organ- ized polycentrically with campuses in Sweden, Malaysia, Ethiopia and Germany. The RLC Campus in Bonn, Germany, hosted by the Center for Development Re- search (ZEF), promotes cooperation and exchange between "Alternative Nobel- prize" projects and transdisciplinary research in fields of poverty alleviation, envi- ronmental sustainability, and social justice (www.rlc-bonn.de).


RLC/ ZEF Workshop

 

The workshop on "Reverse Degradation by Innovation: New Pathways of Sustainable Natural Resource Management" will bring together researchers and PhD students from developing and transition countries with "Alternative Nobel Prize" winners.

The workshop will thematically focus on innovative practical solutions to limit or reverse environmental degradation in the nexus between local human develop- ment, national policies and global environmental challenges. Case studies of inno- vative projects and approaches will be presented and analysed in a cohesive transdisciplinary way. The main workshop objectives are to:

-Identify innovative approaches and best practice in sustainable natural re- source management that deserve for propagation and dispersion

-Work out key challenges and prospects for their implementation in develop- ing and transition countries

-Promote transmission of expertise and networking between "Alternative Nobel Prize" winners and PhD students from developing and transition countries and amongst each other


Participation

Invited are PhD students from developing and transition countries from all disciplines who do empirical research related to one of the following topics:

- Use, management and conservation of natural resources Instruments of environmental protection and conservation Climate change, biodiversity conservation, watershed protection Sustainable agriculture


Fluency in English is mandatory.


The scholarships will cover all costs for international and national travel, hotel accommodation, catering, and working materials.

Your application should consist of: 

 A one-page curriculum vitae 

 A 300 word abstract of your PhD project

All documents in English. The deadline is April 20, 2011. You will be informed about the decision of the selection committee until April 30.
