PhD position in Geographic Information Science and Geoinformatics The Interfaculty department of Geoinformatics - Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg aims to combine high quality education with excellent research. The Faculty has several research groups with an outstanding international reputation. The PhD student will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers and educators in the field of Geographic Information Science and Geoinformatics. The candidate will work in the field of Geographic Information Science, Geoinformatics and spatial analysis. Collaborations with other departments are foreseen. The candidate should bring experience and understanding in the field of Geographic Information Science, Geoinformatics, Geography, landscape analysis or other related fields. A high technical understanding is a prerequisite for this position. The candidate should be qualified for and willing to perform state-of-the-art research, and to acquire a PhD degree in this field. Details will be specified in an iterative process with the supervisor. Beyond that, excellent communication and social skills are required for working in a small dynamic and interdisciplinary team as well as for conducting research independently. Collaboration on publications with other members of the project team is expected with the aim of publishing in international journals and conferences. Eligibility: Suitable applicants should meet the following requirements: - A master's degree or equivalent in Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Geography or other related disciplines.
- Interest and ideally expertise in working with sensor systems (image processing, air quality, traffic or mobile phone applications etc.) for the establishment of a 'human sensor' based (near)-real time geography.
- Very good English language proficiency (German language skills are appreciated but not compulsory)
- Experience and interest in Geographic Information Science, spatial analysis, live geography & sensor systems.
- Ideally, the candidate has some experience with data mining, programming and WEB 2.0 applications.
- Additional requirements include international experience and/or working experience, strong personality characteristics, flexibility, ability to work in a team and interest to work scientifically.

We offer a great working atmosphere as well as remuneration according to the Austrian University collective bargaining agreement (§26, remuneration group B1, gross salary per month € 1.899,- (14 times), 30 hours a week for 4 years. The PhD candidate will enter an established programme leading to a Doctoral degree within a time frame of 4 years.
