Currently my group in Durham has openings for two postdocs and one PhD position in theoretical and computational soft matter physics.

1. A 22-month postdoc position is available to start in November 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter on wetting phenomena. The project will involve collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and an industrial partner. The deadline for application is 30 September 2014. Advert: https://ig5.i-grasp.com/fe/tpl_durham01.asp?newms=jj&id=88665.

2. A 24-month postdoc is available to start in November 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter on membrane biophysics. This position is part of an EPSRC programme grant "CAPITALS", involving leading membrane biophysics groups at Imperial College London, Durham University, the University of Leeds, the University of Cambridge and the University of Nottingham. The deadline for application is 23 September 2014. Advert: https://ig5.i-grasp.com/fe/tpl_durham01.asp?newms=jj&id=88811.

3. A studentship is available for a PhD position to start in October 2015. For possible projects and how to apply, see: https://sites.google.com/site/kusumaatmaja/open-positions/phd-advert. Full funding is currently only available to students who meet EPSRC's residency requirements, see http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/skills/students/help/eligibility. Self-funded (UK, EU, overseas) students will also be considered for this position.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be addressed to Dr. Halim Kusumaatmaja (halim.kusumaatmaja@durham.ac.uk). Further details about the department can be found at http://www.dur.ac.uk/physics/, and about Dr Kusumaatmaja's research group at https://sites.google.com/site/kusumaatmaja.

The group is also part of the Soft Matter and Functional Interfaces Centre for Doctoral Training. The Centre provides industrially-integrated, postgraduate training in research, enterprise and innovation for future leaders in the soft matter industrial sector. For more details, including additional PhD opportunities, see https://www.dur.ac.uk/soft.matter/cdt/.

Durham University, founded in 1832, is the third oldest English University. It is in the Top 100 Universities in the world as ranked by Times Higher Education and QS (2013/2014). The Department of Physics is currently ranked 3rd in the UK Complete University Guide (2014).
