[beasiswa] [info] PhD Position @ the Laboratory for Social and Neural Systems Research / IBT.

The University of Zurich is a leading international university with extensive research programmes. Activities within the Laboratory for Social and Neural Systems Research (SNS Lab) include cutting edge neuro–scientific research that is based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods. Staying up–to–date with the ever–improving MRI technology requires constant updating of our 3T MRI scanner. We are able to do this because we have a close collaboration with the Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBT), which belongs to both the University of Zurich and ETH in Zurich. The IBT is a world–renowned institution where the focus is on the development of MR imaging techniques. To further improve our MRI acquisition methods at the SNS Lab we are looking for a
Physicist or Engineer
to be employed as a PhD student starting from spring of 2015. The successful candidate will belong to both the SNS Lab, where the MR imaging development is led by Dr. Zoltan Nagy and to the MRI Methods Development Group at the IBT that is led by Professor Dr. Klaas Pruessmann.
The specific aim of the project is to implement novel, cutting edge MRI data acquisition methods to enable the neuroscience application of in–vivo parcellation of the human cortex.

The successful candidate will a) incorporate locally developed, cutting edge technology into the current state of the art methods for high angular resolution diffusion MRI acquisition, b) test and optimise the so developed acquisition pipe-line & c) be involved with neuroscience applications that use the so acquired high quality data for fingerprinting the human cerebral cortex tissue. For further background see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23691102.
This is a highly interdisciplinary project, involving both theoretical as well as experimental research with aspects in both the physical and the biological sciences. To achieve the above goals the applicant will work as part of two vibrant, young and talented international teams. Hence we are looking for applicants with a(n)
- Master's degree in physics, engineering or an equivalent field
- Solid mathematical background
- Sound programming skills (Matlab and C or C++)
- Avid interest in neuroscience
- Experience in experimental research
- Strong command of written and spoken English
For further information please contact Dr. Zoltan Nagy and visit the website of the Laboratory for Social and Neural Systems Research (SNS Lab) http://www.sns.uzh.ch/ and the website of the Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBT) http://www.biomed.ee.ethz.ch.

The position will be advertised until a suitable candidate is found. If interested send your comprehensive application (incl. CV/letter of motivation/contact details of 3 references) to University Hospital Zurich, Dr. Zoltan Nagy (zoltan.nagy@uzh.ch) with the subject line being PhD Position @ SNS Lab / IBT.
