open PhD-position at the Stochastic Modeling and Analysis of Communication Systems Research Group, Department of Telecommunications and Information Processing, Ghent University.
Title: Analysis of Heterogeneous Queueing Networks
Description: the PhD project aims at studying queueing networks with a given number of classes of customers. Some kind of differentiated service (priority) can be given when serving customers in the queues. These queueing networks are adequate models for communication networks, since differentiating services is an important aspect in these networks. The aim of the PhD is to make further progress in this research area, for instance by constructing approximate formulas for interesting performance measures such as the end-to-end delay of customers.
Start of contract: summer/fall 2014
Profile of the candidate:
- The candidate must hold a Master degree (or equivalent) at the time of hire, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics.
- The candidate must have a strong mathematical background.
- Good communication skills in English are required.
- Knowledge of queueing theory would be a plus.
How to apply:
- an application should enclose a C.V. including a list of courses followed and grades obtained, a short motivation statement explaining your interest in this PhD-position, and the names of two persons (preferably professors or researchers with whom you have interacted) who are willing to provide a recommendation letter for your application.
- Applications should be sent to Prof. Joris Walraevens (jw@telin.UGent.be).
