The IST has two open positions for research associates in systems biology, working on one of the following topics.
Modeling and analysis of heterogeneous cell populations:
Biological tissue is characterized by heterogeneous populations of interacting cells. The research associate will work on modeling and analysis routines to describe and evaluate the dynamics of such systems. Specific applications include generation of bone tissue implants from stem cells and the response of a tumor cell population to medical treatment.
Uncertainty analysis of biological network models:
Models of biological networks are often highly uncertain, ranging from uncertainties in the network structure to uncertain parameter values. The research associate will develop algorithms for uncertainty analysis based on our recently established approach applying convex optimization. The project also involves work on our Matlab toolbox bioSDP, see biosdp.sourceforge.net.
IST profile
We offer a fixed term full position with the possiblity to do a PhD, paid according to TVL E13. The start time is flexible upon agreement. The IST provides a stimulating and supportive working environment within the Center for Systems Biology and the Excellence cluster for Simulation Technology. Your profile
You completed or are about to complete a diploma or masters degree in engineering, biotechnology, mathematics, or similar. You have profound knowledge of dynamical systems or control engineering and are familiar with scientific software. Basic knowlegde of cell biology or modeling experience in systems biology would be a benefit, but is not required.
