[beasiswa] [info] PhD Opportunity: Hybrid Tomography for Conductivity Imaging - University of Edinburgh

PhD Opportunity:

Hybrid Tomography for Conductivity Imaging

University of Edinburgh

PhD Supervisor: Dr Nick Polydorides

Application Deadline: 30/09/2013

Funding Availability: Open to UK/EU/Overseas applicants. Studentships will cover University fees (at UK/EU or overseas rate), plus a stipend for 3.5 years at the enhanced EPSRC rate (£14,640 for 2013/14).

Research Area: Digital Communications

Project description:

This project aims to develop tomographic reconstruction algorithms for imaging the electrical conductivity of a body using measurements arising from complimentary sensing modalities. Important for many applications in biomedical imaging and industrial process tomography, this technology aims to yield noise-robust, quantitative images with improved spatial resolution, eradicating the shortcomings of electrical impedance tomography. The project requires the development of mathematical models to simulate the measurements and image reconstruction algorithms for nonlinear inverse problems. In this context, we shall investigate how the errors in the measurements and the uncertainties in the model's geometry, structure and sensor position, can be incorporated into the imaging algorithms using stochastic modeling and signal processing tools.

Eligibility and qualifications:

Enthusiastic and self-motivated candidates are sought with a background in applied mathematics and electrical engineering. In particular, good knowledge of fundamentals of electromagnetic theory and computation are essential. Familiarity with inverse problems will be considered an advantage.  Applicants must be of outstanding academic merit: a first class or upper second class honours undergraduate degree (or International equivalent) is the minimum qualification requirement.

Please apply through the Apply link below

Select the Research Area referred to in the advert and clearly state on your application form which project you are applying for and the relevant supervisor.
