[beasiswa] [info] Two PhD scholarships on Future Renewable Energy System Studies

The Center for Electric Power and Energy, Department of Electrical Engineering, invites applications for two PhD positions on future energy system studies. The PhD projects are part of the Danish ForskEL project Application of Synchronous Condensers in Low Inertia Systems, grant no. 12196, funded by PSO (Public Service Obligation).

Fossil-fueled power plants in Denmark will be phased out by 2030, and the majority of electric energy will be supplied by renewable generation. The conventional electric system comprises synchronous generators that are capable of supplying instantaneous inertia and short circuit power during disturbances, while renewable generators typically use converters to interface with the grid, which brings different characteristics.

Responsibilities and tasks
The PhD projects will assess the impact of the future generation mix on inertia and short circuit power, and evaluate the system performance under disturbances. Possibilities of applying synchronous condensers will be investigated. The research will be carried out using the real time digital simulator (RTDS) at PowerlabDK as a primary tool for simulation and testing.

The PhD projects are in close collaboration with Siemens and the Danish transmission system operator Energinet.dk.

All qualified candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, disability, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
