[beasiswa] [info] PhD positions in Big Data and Semantic Web Technologies

The Department of Computer Science of the University of Trento, Italy (http://www.unitn.it), together with the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (http://www.fbk.eu), SpazioDati srl (http://www.spaziodati.eu), and TrentoRISE (http://www.trentorise.eu) are offering two project-specific, industrial Ph.D. grants in the fields of Big Data and technologies for the Semantic Web. Industrial Ph.D. grants aim at providing a mixed research/industry experience, with focus on real-world research problems with significant practical impact. ** APPLICATION DEADLINE: JUNE 16TH ** == Projects Grants are offered in the context two projects: 1. Improving disambiguation in textual annotation with large-scale graph analysis. In this project, the candidate will work on generalizing a graph-based automatic annotation and disambiguation engine called dataTXT (https://dandelion.eu/products/datatxt/). dataTXT is currently able to annotate text snippets and disambiguate these annotations based on the Wikipedia graph, offering state-of-the-art speed and scalability. However, using other knowledge graphs as source currently produces unpredictable results, and requires extensive customization and tuning. The goal is to come up with more general techniques and/or automatic tuning capabilities so that dataTXT can be used on a wider array of graphs (e.g. Freebase). Challenges include characterizing graphs which lead to good disambiguation, as well as developing a technique that performs well with massive knowledge graphs. More information at: http://spaziodati.eu/jobs#phd-grant-disi 2. Infrastructures and workflows supporting higly explorative data management of structured and unstructured data. The term â?oKnowledge Graphâ? has recently become popular thanks to Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft, who announced the transitioning from traditional â?osearch & data managementâ? strategies to Knowledge Graph based approaches, which combine â?oSemanticâ? technologies and â?oBig Dataâ? methodologies. At the same time, we experienced an increasing availability of public data (â?oOpen Dataâ?) provide by both Public Administrations and civil society. The objective of the research is to improve the current state of the art of Knowledge Graph creation and administration methodologies, and to contribute in defining a next generation approach based on â?oexploration based data refinementâ? and on an agile pipeline for data integration. Approaches such as â?oDevOpsâ? and â?oSemantic Big Data processingâ?, will be the foundational elements of a study that tends to develop new agile methodologies for analysis (including also machine learning techniques), administation and interactive exploration of highly dynamic, variable and heterogeneous data. The goal is to allow on-demand Knowledge Graphs creation, using data provided by Spaziodati and itâ?Ts partners, to be used in real business contexts (banking, finance, tourism, heathcare).
