FONASO Fellowship
Bangor University - School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography
Salary: £23,000 p.a. (FONASO)
The School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography is part of a consortium that has received a prestigious award from the EC Erasmus Mundus programme to provide competitive funding for international researchers enabling them to undertake research leading to a European PhD in Forests, Nature and Society (FONASO).
FONASO provides funding for individuals to carry out three-years of full-time research in an integrated programme leading to a doctorate. It builds on existing research departments and environments, taking the best from each to build up joint supervision, activities and advanced doctoral-level courses. Each funded researcher will spend two years working under the supervision of their primary consortium university and up to one year working under the supervision of their secondary consortium university. They are also funded to carry out the field-work component of their research in the international locations required for their research project. The language of the Programme is English.
We are currently seeking to recruit a researcher to work on a three-year project entitled `How do monitoring limitations influence the optimal design and internal governance of Payments for Ecosystem Services projects in tropical forests?'
The successful applicant will be involved in the collection of primary research data through field-work in Indonesia and/or Malaysia and must attend the project's secondary consortium university, University of Padua, Italy, for at least six months. The researcher must complete a PhD dissertation based on the research project and write up this work as academic papers for publication.
Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant subject area and a Masters degree in a relevant subject (e.g. conservation or forestry). Experience of field work in south-east Asia and fluency in Bahasa Indonesian or Malay is essential. A good understanding of the development of REDD as a policy and an understanding of environmental policy in Malaysia and/or Indonesia are desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to start as soon as possible.
