Job description

PhD researchers participate in the Maastricht University Graduate School of Law PhD Training program, starting September 2010. They will prepare a PhD thesis within one of the core research programmes of the Ius Commune or the Human Rights Research School. Supervision will be provided by individually assigned senior researchers. At least 80 % of the position will be dedicated to research and not more than 20% to teaching activities. PhD researchers join the faculty department in the field linked to the theme of their research proposal.

Research projects are incorporated in faculty research groups, which are all part of one of the research programmes of the inter-university research schools Ius Commune and Human Rights. Ius Commune research responds to the increasing need for comparative law and the Europeanization and internationalization of the law. It focuses on European private law (contracts, tort, civil procedure, property, family law, corporate law); comparative constitutional and administrative law, European law (institutions and substantive), international economic law and intellectual property law. Within the domain of Human Rights the focus is on globalisation and human rights and on criminal law in an international context. Faculty researchers also take advantage of the academic setting within the Faculty Institutes, such as the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights, The METRO Institute for Transnational Legal Research, The Institute for Globalisation and International regulation (IGIR), the Maastricht Montesquieu Institute, the Maastricht Forensic Institute tMFI and the Institute for Corporate Law ICGI, Governance and Innovation Policies and the Maastricht Graduate School of Law.

The Maastricht Graduate School of Law offers PhD researchers and talented honours students a stimulating and internationally oriented environment for legal research, supervision and education. Requirements

University graduated Masters with relevant degrees and excellent grades. Motivated and determined researchers possessing first-rate analytical and writing skills in English and preferably also in Dutch. Conditions of employment

Your salary would be € 2.042,- gross per month in the first year up to € 2.612,- gross per month in the fourth year according to the PhD-student salary.
